I hate to spoil everyone's pontifications, but I frequent my local public library and they obtained the BBC Radio "Hitch-Hiker's Guide" and the versions read by Douglas Adams, both on audio cassette for me... SIMPLE!!
(Good old British public library system - so far still state-owned!)
