Indeed, this is by no means an Apple technical support site. So with that in mind, Douglas, given the widespread success of your work, and your impact on the world of science fiction in general, coupled with your experiences as an author, how can I use a 16-bit non-TAPI-aware communications program in Windows 95/98 without getting a "Could not initialize port" error? When I run modem diagnostics from the Modems utility in Control Panel, I receive the following error message with "OPENCOMM" in the title bar: "Port already open."

ummm.... 42?
