The language was one which the Infocom guys had developed themselves, called ZIL (which I think stood for something like Zork Interpreter Language, but I could be lying). It was a kind of distant cousin of LISP. At that time I knew nothing at all about coding (as opposed to now when I merely know hardly anything). On the HHGG game, the coding was done by Steve Meretzky and on Bureaucracy the coding was done initially by Mark Blank and then by whoever was passing the office at the time. (Of course, Steve and Mark were both major collaborators on the actual design of the respective games as well.)
