u have 2 remember that prior to this eddie's new personality had been holding them hostage on the ship and refused to lethem out until zaphod apologised. zaphod threatens to to reprogram eddie with an axe and eddie let them out.
i assumme zaphod or ford insult eddie or swear at him, causing him to open the door again. only DNA knows for sure and most likely has forgotten by now.
