Subject: Re: Vote Ralph Nader (US) ( 59 of 98 )
Posted by Sage

while it is true that Nader may be taking a fraction of votes which might go to Al Gore, more of his votes will be coming from a)Democrats and Republicans who are so fed up with both candidates that they wouldn't vote otherwise, b) Repulicans who hate Gore, but have doubts about voting for Bush (for obvious reasons), and c) independents and Greens who would vote for the Green candidate if God were running under the democratic ticket. The whole "Nader is taking votes away from Gore" sob story is more of a myth, supporting the social status quo, than truth.

Persons considering voting for the Green party- if you're concerned that the Greens could accidentally put Bush in office, do what the Greens throughout the whole election have been asking you to do: vote late in the night, after you've had a chance to see an update on the current status of votes in your state. They show these on television and occasionally on the radio. If your state is undecidedly pro-Bush or pro-Gore, vote Nader. If it's possible that it could go either way, vote for Gore, if you think it's appropriate.

Whatever the results of this election, it will be important not because of who won, but whether or not the Greens will achieve what they are trying for- to gain official status and funding from the government. Why is this so important? because it will mean, for the first time in centuries, that our country is taking a step towards democracy and a step away from the limited two-party system which is truly a monster with two heads.

Disclaimer: I don't work for the Green party or any nonsense like that. I'm not even of age to vote. This election is important to me because it will determine not only the president for the next four years, but whether or not, in the election after this, I will be able to go to the voting booth, knowing that my vote is more than a choice for the lesser of two evils.
