Most of the speeches I give are free for entrants, either because it's for a conference or corporation who are paying to bring me in, or because it's part of a college lecture program in which case it's at least subsidised if not free.

In some cases - such as the speech in Sweden - I guess the sponsor is covering the costs in actual ticket sales, and just the travel and hotel costs are considerable even before they pay me a fee. But yes they do pay me a good fee. I wouldn't take a week out of my life away from my work and my family and fly half way around the world if they didn't. On the other hand I'm doing a speech just up the road at UCSB soon for next to nothing.
