I'm responding to your comments in the previous post about spelling, and how Americans are really bad at it. Well, I certainly can't argue with that, but I would like to point out that there is a good reason for it. As a victim of the American public education system myself, I can testify to the fact that we have one of the worst education systems in any industrialized nation. We're lucky if the teachers can spell properly. Because it's such a wide spread problem, poor spelling and grammar have become acceptable even among college educated people. Americans aren't stupid, we're just the victims of very low standards. The next time you encounter an American who can't spell, I encourage you to temper your crankiness with a little sympathy.
