The date is arbitrary and the period of time is arbitrary, so to make a fuss about the missing year 0 is rather wonderfully to miss the point. The point is that the moment when all the digits roll over is a good excuse for a party. That's all it is. If the upshot of all this silly nitpicking is that all of the pedants decide to boycott the parties at the end of this year then it will be all the more fun for those of us who are at them.
