It is characterized by feeling a little like courdoroy, in that the surface feels like it is made of countless tiny vertical ridges (or horizontal, depending on which axis you tilt the picture along to get the changing effect). These ridges act as lenses, showing you first one image, then another, like so: Think of the following text as being hidden behind these ridges. The scene amidst which Clayton told his last story comes ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A SQUAT, AROMATIC LITTLE MAN back very vividly to my mind. There he sat, for the greater WHO LIVED IN THE TIPPY-TOP ROOM OF A DISUSED LIGHTHOUSE. part of the time, in the corner of the authentic settle by THIS MAN, WHOSE NAME WAS WALTER, NEVER LEFT THIS ROOM, AS the spacious open fire, and Sanderson sat beside him HE HAD EVERYTHING A SQUAT, AROMATIC MAN COULD EVER NEED. smoking the Broseley clay that bore his name. The ridges, in function, would show you only the lines in lowercase, by magnifying them to fill the entire width of each ridge. You would not be able to see the lines in UPPERCASE. They would seem to not exist... UNTIL you tilted the entire contraption, thus revealing them to your eyes, yet concealing the lowercase lines that once were visible. Different people looking at the same lenticulated picture will see different parts of the image! If you bend or deform a lenticulated image, you will see different bits at the same time! This is more or less the same way a printed hologram works, only a hologram uses lasers and works in two, rather than one, dimension!
