Subject: "How to Stop Worrying and Learn to Love the Internet" ( 1 of 10 )
Posted by Mike S.

Douglas,

I just finished reading your above named article (to everyone else: if you haven't seen it, check DNA -> Articles by DNA), and I enjoyed it very much. Being only a year younger than you, I imagine that I've experienced many of the same revolutionary changes during my life which you have, and seen how they have transformed communication, entertainment, business, and the like. By the way, I'm assuming that since there weren't any credits given, that this piece has been published only on this web site?

A few of the points you made in that article remind me of a book I've read, titled "Silicon Snake Oil: Second Thoughts on the Information Highway", by Clifford Stoll. Have you read this book? Although much of it is cynical in nature, I believe that most of the ideas presented and statements made are quite accurate and insightful, and I've not looked at the internet in quite the same way since reading it. I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone who considers the Internet to be the best thing since sliced bread. Because even the finest home-baked bread can be transformed to burnt toast in a minute or so.

P.S. - just curious, was the article title an intentional reference to Dr. Strangelove?
