Subject: Thoughts on DnA ( 1 of 1 ) Posted by Krikkit I walked in the door this morning and CNN was on. Before I caught the words I could recognize DNA sitting there. Sadly, it wasnt an announcement regarding a new book, or perhaps anything along those particular lines of pleasantness. Its now fifteen minutes later, and I am quite shocked...His passing was not to be expected, and I find it eternally hard to believe he has actually passed. I can remember stumbling apon my brother's copy of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy as little kid, age 7 or 8. I saw that nefarious green guy nosing me from the cover, and I was enthralled, merely by the cover. Too young to comprehend what was happening in the books very well(it wasnt what I expected, I was too young to get it), I neglected to read them, but would occasionally pull out the books and make up interesting stories involving that happy green blob. By the time I hit 10 or 11 years of age, I was able to read the books and begin to realize the scope of its humor and the genius of its creationg. Since that time, the best one-liners have become part of my vernacular, the best speeches have been recited to all who would appreciate them, and no matter what situation arises, I remember the two great wisdoms of our time. Don't Panic. Always know where your towel is. In a critical light, one might wonder at these truths. For those of us who have incorporated the mindset of Douglas, and appreciate the oh so unique way he viewed our world, and any other world for that matter. The ultimate conglomeration of sense and silliness molded aspects of my personality, and my sense of humor, that tool which carries me from day to day through the endless clouds of nonsense we all must face. It would seem that Douglas looked the nonsense straight in the eye, and stuck his tongue out at it. That is how I would remember him; and remember him I shall, as will we all. The best friend who never knew my name, and the humorous role model for me and generations of readers - Douglas Adams, Though you never knew me, I will miss you like I would the greatest of friends.
