Subject: End of the Universe ( 1 of 1 ) Posted by Eric Avedissian When I was an awkward teen in 1982, I bought this book called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Wow1 Douglas Adams took me for an imaginative ride where Earth was "mostly harmless" and the Restaurant at the End of the Universe truly existed. His writing shaped and influenced my writing career. I guess he conjured up all of the absurdity and stupidity of the universe, a kind of surrealistic science fiction fest that, unlike a fun house mirror, warped humanity's ugly self. Characters like Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod and Marvin will live in infamy. Thanks, Doug for all the fish and everything. |
