Subject: To the greatest ( 1 of 1 )
Posted by James Taylor

It's difficult to say what I feel; sadness is overwhelming at the loss of someone who I see as an inspiration for much in my life.

I've felt honoured to have meet Douglas, on a couple of occasions both at the launch of the Book "Mostly Harmless" almost 10 years ago. His writings have been a support and an inspiration even in my darkest moments. Douglas was a man who inspired me and I regarded as a hero, someone to follow in the footsteps. A great man who will never leave us, and in years to come will still be there in his writing.

Even the village that I live in is mentioned in the "Meaning of Liff":
Gildersome (adj)
Descriptive of a joke someone tells you which starts well, but which becomes so embellished in the telling that you start to weary of it after scarcely half an hour.

As I heard the news I was in disbelief. You will be missed. You we’re one of a kind and shall be remembered forever. Your books will be treasured forever.

My sympathies go out to Jane, Polly, his family, friends and all the others he has touched.

So long and thanks for all the fish….
