“42 (A Tribute To Douglas Adams, 5-11-01)”

The house sits on a rise
Just outside of the town
I can watch the sun arise
But never relieve the frown
Knowing it’s a star
Just like any other one
That it will fade out one day
When all is spoken and done

The clouds whisper by
And I dream that I
I dream that you could be
One of those that I see
But I know you’ve got be higher
Got be like a ball of fire
Forever in our memories
Will be your great histories

Where have you gone now?
Just when the world was waking up
Will the sun rise again
With the brightest star gone from above
Where have you gone now?
Just when we thought you would forever last
At a time when we dreamed
Of the future and no longer worried about the past
You were the last living savior
For this mind of mine
And you you’ve gone
How will I survive?

So many didn’t take you seriously
Now maybe they’ll see
What an important figure you were
To us
You made us laugh so hard
That now we must cry
Like children in the night

The city lights get dimmer
By the minute with you not here
You used to make it glimmer
And you’d take away our fear
By showing us the way
To walk to the river
And there we could bathe
And now we remember

Will the sun rise again when it’s over?
Will there still be a sky
When you’re gone will the world be gone
Or will we always wonder why
Someone as great had to be taken away
I followed you like Moses
And you never led me astray
But I still don’t know
How will I survive without you?
