MacOS X (Server) is based on the UNIX kernal. It's similar, but not quite the same. No one's sure about OS X Consumer. Apple, as is the norm recently, is overwhelmingly tight-lipped about it.

There are numerous Mac rumor sites around. MacOS Rumers and Think Secret come to mind.
