Hmm, I suspect my dislike of "learned" is from the English colloquialism "they learned me that at school". Hence "I learned that at school" sounds equally bad.

As far as regular past tense aorist constructions go - you just made that up, didn't you? I had actually asked a copy-editor friend of mine a while back and he didn't have a clue.

The Stephen Pinker book - I've had conversations in the past about this book and it is high time I bought it - so I have.
