You, coming from a country where tons of air and water quality distroying, strip mined (okay, I'm not sure how to spell this one) coal is used to create electricity, have no right to look down on dams. If your going to frown on any type of land distroying practice, let it be strip mining. Yeah, so dams rip up a couple hundred acres, so does a fricken strip mine. At least Hydro-electricity is clean. Coal burning is why the enviroment is so messed up today, and I'm sure you are aware of the dangers posed by nuclear-powered electric generating stations. Washington dams create a heck of a lot of electricity, cleanly and relativly cheaply.
Its not beaver genealogy, its good Washington know-how.
