I'm looking at the first edition Pan paperback from 1980 and that definitely contains the passage "...calculate once and for all the ANSWER to the ultimate QUESTION of life...etc" (capitals are mine). So the first big question is - where did the error first appear? and the second big question is does it really matter very much?
