But surely this "obstacles" argument in it's most reductionist form would indicate we should favour the written word (which perhaps ironically is the least obstacle strewn media).

Are you saying that the obstacles are the mother of invention or simply the grist for the mill of invention?

Can we ever hope for a media that rivals our own subjective imagination? If not - why bother? Why make films?
