My condolences to you, as well. I can barely stand to lose a cat, I can't currently imagine what it might be like to lose a child.

Although I do believe in a 'higher being', I don't consider NDE's to be related to that, other than the fact that they are shaped by the beliefs of the person experiencing them.

I've given the idea a lot of thought recently, and I've come to believe that what one experiences during a NDE is somewhat similar to a dream. But, due to the circumstances surrounding it, the relevance to the person who has gone through it is much higher.

Any spiritual or mystical significance, if any, would therefore be very personal to the one with the experience and not necessarily relevant to anyone else.
