i thought the TV series was good, myself. yes, the sets and effects could have been improved, and the acting was pretty cheesy at times, but it was still funny.

as for Life, the Universe and Everything being best suited for a movie, of course it is! it was, i believe, originally meant to be a Dr Who movie. it was never filmed, so Mr. Adams adapted it for the characters from Hitchhikers.
the other books were based on the radio series. the radio series were written without any particular plot in mind, whereas LUE had a definite pattern set before writing began.

and finally, to gag halfrunt: i believe it's "so hip he has difficulty seing over his pelvis"
