If anyone's interested in an excellent example of the intentional use and abuse of grammar to enhance a story, read just about anything by Irvine Welsh. The best example of "Trainspotting", which is almost entirely written in the first-person, but constantly switches from one character to the next, so the writing style varies depending on which character is telling the story at the time.

Grammar is a tool, just like the words themselves. Welsh is a master at this tool.
