Maybe religion isn't just some psychological need for people to believe in something higher than themselves. I don't think you need religion for that anyway. Maybe the 'higher being' is something that rests in our own subconscious - our own psychological higher self. Is that too crazy an idea?

The basic dogma of most religions seem to be teaching the same thing anyway (barring cultural differences, of course) since most religions try to teach similar moral codes or ethics.

Anyone agree or disagree? Anyone care to expand on the bare bones I've laid out? I'd be very interested to hear other opinions on this subject.
