One further addition to my earlier post:

Since God gives/allows free will in all people, He cannot prevent evil actions without violating His own rules. Therefore, evil actions done in the name of religion are not the fault of God. My point? That the existance of evil is not proof that God fails to exist. The existence of evil is simply proof that humankind does exist.
