I think that the idea of gods and religion started one morning a few thousand years ago when some guy wanted to have some power over the rest of the tribe and he had found out to, say, forecast the weather, and he said he had this way of communicating with higher powers, and the rest were in awe and believed him. He found more ways to convince his fellow tribesmen that he had a special friend in the 'gods' and ....
Well, you get my drift, don't you?
